Dressing up for a traditional Isaan (Thai) birthday party at J&B's

When all of europe started to celebrate carnaval, we started that same weekend with the birthday celebration of kiks close friend Cid. Cid and kik became "friends in need" with a special Bhuddist ceremony last year in february. Since then he feels responsible for Kik, specially when he needs help or taking care of, and the same counts for Kik for Cid. Kik, in this picture in the midlle, next to me, is on his way, together with a ladyboy friend to do a special traditional dance for Cid to commemorate his birthday.
Ofcourse yours truly was just 'decoration' haha, to make everything look more nice . But having no idear, or at least little idear yet, how these traditional birthdays go, I observed and learned a little bit more about some Thai ways of showing how one feels........... and they went trough a lot of trouble and time to make everything as nice as possible so Cid would really have a wonderfull birthday.
Well, at least I sincerely hope Kik, with a little help of me and much more from his friends here, was succesfull... and seeing how Cid enjoyed it all, I think he indeed enjoyed his birthday. LOL, though till one day before he didn't want any celebration.... but then his mind (was) changed and kik organised a splendid birthday in 24 hours!!
Well, Thai, ergo Kik as well, are not very well organised, but wow, they know how to improvise and make/organise things on the spur of the moment........... something I was also to discover for the carnaval party at J&B's 2 days later.

I can assure you, being the farang here, it is really getting adjusted to, in my eyes, the last minute organisation they manage to do..... and inviting people for a parrty less then a day before, to see that most of them turn up as well!

We farang want to plan everything, make sure our guests receive invitations in time so they can actually make it to your party or event. Also it gives you time to prepare and make sure all goes well....... well the Thai seem to have trouble with that concept, and sofar when organising something I was the one getting totally stressed out because I worried so much if things would go as I wanted them to go. Also inviting people a day before makes me crazy sometimes..... I hope one day I am able to teach Kik that more preparation also takes a way most of the stress he has everyttime when we organise something... and actually makes his live les stresfull, not to mention my own life, haha... can only pray that one day it will be so, without loosing that magic capability of last minute improvisation and to make sure all goes well ;-) Like this birthdayparty, like the Orange party on the 31st of January or the Carnavalparty on the 23d of February.
But I worry most about when it comes to organising a bar, a business.... so am happy with all the experience I am now getting!
